Tom & Gin

A builder by trade, Tom knew he was destined to stay on the farm. Like his father, he wanted to share this gem of a place with the world.
Tom came up with the concept of Pipinui Point when he returned from living in the UK. Since then he has developed it from the ground up, into the incredible place it is today.
Gin, the black labrador, is never far from his side and seems pretty happy Tom has decided to stay on the farm.

OUR ENVIRONMENT

Sustainability

We are committed to creating a sustainable environment for future generations. To do our part, up to 90 hectares of land has been earmarked for native bush regeneration consisting of Tauhinu, Mingimingi, Whiteywood, Ngaio, Kanuka and Pimelea.

We take great care to ensure that the products and materials we work with are locally made and sustainably sourced. Our luxury accommodation was built using timber framing and recycled insulation. Indoors, wool carpets, furniture and linens have been carefully chosen from New Zealand companies.

You’ll also find local products in the kitchen and bathroom during your stay. Our breakfasts feature Wellington favourites;  Supreme Coffee, The Oatery Granola and Wellington Sourdough. Auckland-based Ashley & Co bath products which are as gentle on the environment as they are on your skin.

By following the Tiaki Promise, we are making a commitment to care for New Zealand, now and for future generations. While travelling through our beautiful country, you too can play a part in this promise.

CAPITAL KIWI

We are supporting the mission to restore our national icon in our own backyard. Capital Kiwi are currently trapping pests on the property and hope to be releasing kiwi by 2022. Watch the video to learn more about this exciting project.

History

Papanui station

In the early 1920s, Captain John Eastwick set sail from the United Kingdom after serving in World War I. By 1926 he had purchased and settled upon Papanui Station, a 1600 acre sheep and beef farm on the west coast of Wellington.

His son Dick Eastwick and wife Peg took over Papanui Station in 1955. They successfully developed Papanui by purchasing extra land and having an early vision to keep this place pristine. Good farming practices consisting of eliminating gorse and good fertilisation were their strengths.

Jonny Eastwick took over the farm in 1988. Realising the challenges of the land and the beauty it had to offer they couldn’t resist sharing this spectacular property with the world. This inspired them to create Boomrock Lodge in 1997.

Tom Eastwick saw the potential of this rugged landscape as well. After 16 months of developing Pipinui Point, the clifftop retreat opened in 2020.
